This Privacy Notice explains how CoachOS Chess ("CoachOS", "we") collects, uses, and shares personal data when you use our service. We act as the data controller for personal data processed in connection with your account.

1. Data we collect

• Account data: name, email, login credentials, profile bio.
• Coaching content: students you add, games, lessons, homework, reports, notes you create.
• Support data: messages you send us.
• Usage and device data: pages visited, features used, IP address, browser and device identifiers, basic telemetry.
• Cookies: essential cookies for authentication and session management.

2. How we use data

• To create your account and provide the service;
• To deliver coaching features (game analysis, reports, lessons);
• To send transactional and product emails you've enabled;
• To secure the service and prevent fraud or abuse;
• To improve the product;
• To respond to support requests;
• To meet legal obligations.

3. Legal bases

We rely on performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests (running and improving the service securely), your consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations.

4. Sharing data

We share personal data only as needed:

• Service providers / subprocessors: hosting, database, email delivery, error monitoring, analytics.
• Merchant of Record (Paddle): for sale of paid plans, subscription management, payments, tax compliance, and invoicing.
• Professional advisers: legal and accounting, where necessary.
• Authorities: where required by law.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or rely on adequacy decisions.

6. Data retention

We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. After account deletion, we delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law (e.g. tax and billing records).

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. EU/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, email support@coachoschess.com. We will respond within one month.

8. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures, including encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege practices, to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.

9. Children

Coach accounts are intended for adults. Where students are minors, the coach is responsible for ensuring appropriate parental or guardian consent for any personal data they enter on a student's behalf.

10. Changes to this notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. We will update the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email.
